Coming home and Johor Lama
Jess must had spent the past few years worrying herself sick over the status of her car. Wild suggestions about car being missing, parts being changed, repairs not done properly etc certainly had not put her at peace. Not been able to wait any longer, we decided to hop over on Hari Raya Haji. From my past experience, I wasn't expecting the causeway to be jammed. The logic was simple, most who wanted to run off for the long weekend, would already have done so the night before.
So the plan was to pick her at 8am, and go over the checkpoint around 9am. True to my prediction, the causeway was smooth as a baby's bottom. Without any sweat, we touched down in JB by early nineish.
Weather wasn't that good, and it rained mostly on the way. On a certain stretch, quite heavy too. We reached the workshop around 10.30am, but the gate was closed. Jess made a call to the boss who said he would be over in 5 minutes.
Waiting for the gate to open under the rain
We can only peep at the car from outside
From outside of the gate, car was confirmed there. So, all the hogwash talk about workshop stealing the car was unfounded. From that distance, car also looked alright. We had to stand under the slight drizzle, until the boss arrived to open the gates. Strange, there were some 3-4 bunglahs inside, but they didn't have the keys to open the gate. So kind of like they were sort of like kept prisoners.
No hint of accident
Back door covering properly
Plastic housing for lights a little chipped
Looking good
Missing LTA nut
Someone put a naughty sign here
Once we were near the car, the result of the repair took us by surprise. We were expecting the workmanship to be sloppy, but the work was in fact well done. So good that we couldn't tell any signs of the accident, saved for the dented car plate and the missing screw. I was so glad that the boss didn't take advantage of us and did a splendid job in the repair works. I gave him my thanks and asked for a namecard. We could certainly consider this place in future for any repair jobs.
Jess and Shawn were visually relieved, and so it was sort of a happy ending. Even though they had to part with RM250, I thought it was quite worth it. The matter could be considered closed.
Shawn inspecting the condition
Parking at Sg Rengit for lunch
Given the drizzle, it was hard to go anywhere else. So again, we went to the usual duck porridge place to have some light lunch. The stall lady recognized us and was probably thinking how come these singaporeans kept coming back to her stall. But really, hers was a cheap and good place for some rest stop and food.
Actually, I had very much wanted to revisit my secret spot again. But given the never ending drizzle, not wise to travel in there. Even last week, the ground was soft at certain parts. Going in the rain was high chance of getting our wheels stuck in the mud.
RM8+ mixed fruits platter
Seeing that we had no where to go, once again we headed for Sebana Cove for coffee. The waiter also recognised us and gave us a smile. It was sort of pleasant just sitting there sipping coffee and comtemplating about the rain. And again, the service was very very slow. We ordered coffee, and it took like 15 minutes to arrive. We ordered a mixed fruit platter, and again it took another 15 minutes. Hm, these people work on a different measure of time.
Arriving at Johor Lama Fort
From Sebana Cove, seeing that the raining was still persisting, I suggested to head for Jusco to do some shopping. But along the way, the rain somewhat resided and seeing that the Johor Lama was just round the corner, I decided to detour in to have a look see.
Hey, this is a coffee tree
Coffee beans
All you want to know about the fort
Those knolls were the fort
I can see Pirates from here
Mosquito
High view of the Malay styled hut
Johor Lama I had been to 2 years back. At that time, nothing much. This time, it was roughly the same. But thinking to enter the authentic looking malay styled hut, we were told that it was closed for the holiday.
Dinner
From there, we shot back to Jusco. But just outside of Jusco, the traffic was maddening and we could see that it was packed crowded with cars and people. Not a good idea, and I made a turn to head for the other Jusco at Permas. Jess and Shawn hadn't been here before, and had a good time shopping. After that, we wrapped up with dinner at the coffee shop near Fisherman. Food there was cheap and somewhat good. Not bad at all.
Yellow back in Singapore, safe and sound
Heading back via the Lorry checkpoint, there wasn't any jam at all. Traffic was smooth and flowing, and we were back in Singapore by 7.30pm. Yellow car arrived safely after spending so many days in JB, ending our week long saga. :)
