Muar, Batu Pahat Wet World

I didn't want to stay home and waste the day. But today being a regular day, driving out my OPC car was not allowed (unless showing the $20 coupon). So early morning, I forced myself to leave my comfy bed, and roused everyone up to leave the house before 7. A grumbled about having to go MY again. But by sheer will-power, we were over the checkpoint just slightly after 7am.

Stulang Laut

The talking piece

Not knowing where to go, I randomly ended up in Stulang Laut. Thinking that having breakfast here would be a change, we parked and picked a clean looking stall to fill our stomachs. The talking point of this stall was their aquarium tank of a long neck turtle. It had this mix of blur and cute face, that delighted A quite a bit.

During breakfast, I was looking at my GPS and planning where to head for. I decided then to try out Muar, as we had never been there before. But it was actually a sorry excuse to check out another fish spot indicated on my GPS. However this time round, the spot was quite far away. More than a 100km. But with Muar being round the corner, this looked like a worth doing exercise.

We headed up north and joined the NSH. Toll came up to RM17 when we exited at Pagoh. From there, another half hour drive, we arrived. But I didn't managed to locate the spot accurately but came to another side of the river.

First location

Using small live prawns

A catfish

The place looked quite "clean" with a sheltered area for fishing. But the water was just too much of a teh tarik look alike. Definitely not a good time for fishing. Someone was there trying out with live tiny prawns. When we arrived, he only gotten a catfish.

Actual spot

Some boys fishing

Brown water

After some navigating, I finally arrived at the exact spot. But it wasn't any better, as it was facing the same river. More people were fishing here including 3 young chinese boys.

From the looks of things, I didn't even bother to try. So from there, I plotted a route to the Pusat Bandar (town) to find a place for lunch.

We did manage to get to the centre of the town, which was a bustling area of activity. I was quite taken aback that the traffic in the town was very heavy. Getting stalled in a long jam was not uncommon, even at that hour.

Wetex parade

Heavy traffic

We shopped around this mall Wetex Parade, which had "the store" as its anchor tenant. But not finding any appealing food fare, we decided on KFC to play it safe. KFC had been quite popular in MY, and could be found at all town centres. Particulary near the bus stations.

Lunch was ok, and during the meal, I took the opportunity to explore the area with my maps. Doing a search, Batu Pahat Wet world seemed interesting. Furthermore, along the way, we would pass by a hot spring. I had never seen an authentic hot spring before, and wanted to experience what it would be like.

The disappointing main "hot spring"

Nicest looking thing here

Arriving at the hot spring, it was quite a big disappointment. Firstly, it was not natural, as a swimming pool had been built around it. Secondly, it was quite run down, and the water, downright yucky. A wanted to have a swim in it but after seeing the condition, we decided against it. We only stayed like 10 mins and left the place shortly.

Continuing the journey to BP Wet world, we arrived around 4pm. From outside, it looked quite ok, except for being a little run down. But entering the water park, we found the place to be pretty decent (for MY standard), and not expensive at RM10 per pax. Facilities were quite ok, and my girl did have fun. But one thing about swimming in MY, nobody wears a swimming costume. People would just get into the water in their full attire, bra, underwear and all. Since we didn't bring A's costume, we just got an extra clothing for her too, MY style.

Fishing pond

Wet world had a fishing pond just next to it. But it was a paid pond and we saw some anglers doing their thing. I went to have a look around from within the water park, but it didn't look interesting enough for me to want to fish there.

Batu Pahat Shopping centre, The Summit

We had dinner here at VK

After the swim, we headed for Batu Pahat town for dinner. We later found out that there was a nicer Batu Pahat Mall, but alas, we went to a smaller one instead. But it was quite ok, and we had dinner there.

Dinner was decent, and after that, it was back all the way to our rest stop at Jusco for a movie to wait out the checkpoint jam. Drive back took about 2 hours in the night. But traffic wasn't too heavy and it was quite smooth sailing. From Jusco driving back at around 11.30pm, traffic was smooth at MY side, and a slight jam at Sin side.

Entrance to water world has increased to RM15 for adults and RM12 for kids. Maintenance is quite poor. Railing on tower badly rusted. Management's idea of repair is to put tape around it. I am concern that it may not last too long. Hopefully, no one will fall due to the poor maintenance. Water is a bit murky. Staff are very friendly.
