Bangkok Family Trip - 1 - Arrival

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6

Day 1
The last trip to Thailand was probably 10 years ago when Desiree was around 7, and we had brought Era along then. For that trip, we had ventured to Bangkok and Chiang Mai. This time round, the trip was more to let Raiden experience a plane ride, being his first. This was also an opportune time as Ling was awaiting her Kaplan University course to start and was able to join us before the start of the school term. Desiree was deep into her preparations for her 1st year exams and would stay at home to look after Sophie. Anyway, Desiree had a trip to France to look forward to in Jun'18.

Since we were on a budget, we did not plan to do any extension to other places than to stay in Bangkok itself. It turned out to be quite a wise decision as indeed as Bangkok had plenty to offer. For the 6 days there, there was enough things to do to occupy each day, until our return. Therefore, we did explore quite a fair bit of Bangkok.

Thankfully that morning, we managed to get a Grab service at a very cheap price of $30 to the airport at 3am from our house. If we had used a regular taxi, the midnight surcharge would be substantial and the trip would probably cost $50-$60.

Raiden did not quite enjoy the plane ride and we later found out that it was due to the change in pressure and he didn't know how to equalise his ears. Hence, he was experiencing discomfort. We had told him to look out the window but he just wanted to look inside the plane and was throwing tantrum. It was only upon the return trip (at night) that he enjoyed it and was looking out the viewport looking at the glittering lights of the city as we took off Don Muang Airport.

I had used AirBnB for the first time, and it turned out to be a good choice. Our designated stay was at a pretty nice condo, near Bang Son Station. Although the station wasn't too near to town (nearer to Chatuchak), it was still quite convenient. Condo itself was quite a new and upmarket building and the facilities were indeed very nice. We were at 23rd floor, so the view was quite paronamic too.
