Day 4
Today, we aimed to visit Or Tor Kor, the fresh food market. This was reputated to be one of the top 5 in the world. To the locals, this market was expensive, as it had the best and freshest products. Or Tor Kor was just opposite of Chatuchak, and it was easy to get there. Reaching there, I was surprised that it was just an open air market. I had thought it to be air conditioned, but it was not. At the edge of the market, there was a food court section. So, we sat down to have a nice sumptous lunch. I went around to check out the durians and ended up buying about 1200 baht worth of durians to try. In thailand, they only had the Monthong, and the KanYao. Thai durians were quite differnt from Malaysian durians, being not as rich in flavours but more meaty. However, it was nice, and I ate most of it.
There was some kind of procession going on, and there was a group of thai people dancing to some upbeat music. It was some buddhist guru celebration I think. It probably lasted an hour, all the time when we were there. When it ended, the people gathered at a tentage, with a row of chanting monks. Some people invited us to join in the queue for free food.
Another interesting encounter was with the tiny small sweet pineapple. Mr Ang had told us about this and I was eager to try it. I think in thailand, I really enjoyed the fruits, all very sweet and juicy. (not to mention, cheap).
After Or Tor Kor, we headed towards Pratunum Market. This was the place to go for cheap clothings. This was like street stalls and so the clothings were indeed very cheap. However, most of the branded stuff should be fakes. We walked around for a while and ended up in Indra Square, supposedly the cheapest shopping in the area, frequented by mostly indians. This was like their little india. Raiden had his KFC here, and I bought him a Tuk Tuk Char.
After that, we decided to head back to the condo and do some swimming in the evening before dinner. The grab driver that took us learnt that I was heading to bungsamram the next day and offered to drive me there for 2500 baht. He was Mr Nok. Seeing that he could speak some english and looked like a nice chap, I agreed. Although I later found that the pond could arrange transport for 2300 bahts, I decided to go with Mr Nok. The pool was quite empty and we mostly had it to ourselves. Surprisingly, Raiden wasn't afraid and for the first time, he was having fun in the water.
After the swim, we did dinner at the eateries near the Condo. We settled on a beer garden looking place, and L and A enjoyed the super spicy food. It was not bad.
